The image shown is not the Berckheyde of 1673. This is an earlier version in the collection of the Amsterdam Historical Museum inv.nr. SB 6329 (loan ICN): Canvas 75,5 x 91,5 cm, c. 1665-70; compare our website for details: www.ahm.nl/schilderijen. The 1673 Berckheyde is also with us (loan Rijksmuseum). Best wishes, Norbert Middelkoop, paintings curator AHM

Dear Norbert Middelkoop, Thank you for your information. I have compared the online wikipedia version to the rijksmuseum version and judging from the cracks, they are the same. Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 17:50, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Vincent, You are right; it is exactly the same painting. But the Rijksmuseum website shows the wrong image to their SK-A-1733. Check their printed catalogue of 1976 and you'll see. The painting described (dating from 1673) is also in our museum (check our website, www.ahm.nl/schilderijen, inv.nr. SB 1160). The painting reproduced has never been in the Rijksmuseum so there is a serious mistake here. I'll let them know. A related version of the reproduced painting (our inv.nr. SB 6329), is in the Staatliches Museum in Schwerin. Both Berckheyde paintings mixed up in this entry, will be on show in our museum during the exhibition 'Old Masters of Amsterdam' (5 March - 9 August 2009). All welcome to come and compare! Norbert Middelkoop

Sorry for my late response, but I finally found some time to fix the mistake you pointed out. Thank you for that. Also, in my research to find more information on the painting, I found a report on its provenance by Bureau Herkomst Gezocht (see http://www.herkomstgezocht.nl/download/deelrapp4zonderafb.doc), in case you haven't already read it.
