Anti-Christian?
[edit]There has been a history of dispute concerning whether this image depicts an anti-Christian sign, and contested edits to the description and the inclusion in Category:Anti-Christianity. "Anti-Christian" in the file name is questionable.
In Commons:Deletion requests/File:Anti-Christian sign in Federal Plaza Chicago.jpg an IP editor claiming to the photographer has objected to the use of "anti Christian". This may be a repeat of a discussion on the administrators' noticeboard.
Unfortunately the Flickr source page is unavailable, so I do not know how the Flickr uploader described the photo. The declared source is described as "in Federal Plaza, Chicago", which may be the image name on Flickr.
The photo was taken at a protest in Chicago against an attempt to ban gay marriage in California (see w:en:2008 California Proposition 8). Several Christian groups supported the proposed ban.[1]
The evidence is the text on the sign: "Life begins when you stand up to Christian Fascists!". In the context of the protest this should be interpreted as describing the Christian opponents of Proposition 8 as Fascists. It opposes Christians who are Fascists, but it does assert an equivalence between Christianity and Fascism. 'Christian' is an adjective that qualifies the noun 'Fascists'.
I propose:
- Rename the file to Chicago protest 2008.jpg
- Remove from Category:Anti-Christianity
Please discuss. Pinging involved editors: @Mask of Picnic, Chicago.drew, Túrelio, Axpde, Cathy Richards, Tryphon, and Axpde:

- As I m a christian myself, I have to admit that I feel offended by either „Anti-Christian“ or „Christian Fascists“!
- The protests are not against chritians in total, and „Christian Fascist“ is a contradictio in adiecto, because it's not possible to be christian AND fascist at the same time!
- I second @Verbcatcher: 's proposals! a×pdeHello! 15:46, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
