Almohad flag

[edit]

@R Prazeres Hi, regarding this flag which you tagged as fictitious a while ago, it appears it's actually an Almohad flag according to this source : [1] it's depicted in p 153, and p 154 states: cixxii is an Almohad one from a fresco depicting the Aragonese siege of Almudaina (in Majorca) in 1228 and is white with black markings and a gold star in the centre. Per this image:

Thanks for looking. The first source ([3]) is unfortunately self-published so it's not considered reliable, but it's good to have the full fresco and its identification. The image here is still partly fictional though (or WP:OR at any rate). The star in the fresco doesn't seem to be gold and the details of the flag aren't clear enough in the original image to reconstruct entirely. Whether the "fictitious" tag is still appropriate or not is debatable; the name and details would need to be updated either way. I still wouldn't use it on Wikipedia, unless we find a reliable source discussing it.
That second source ([4]) is a great find though. It would be nice if we could get a good-quality copy of the image to use. There's one here but it's at a rather low resolution. R Prazeres (talk) 20:21, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
PS: On that last point, I was able to extract at the image from the book and upload it here. I've added it to the Almohad article. There may be even higher-resolution versions of those miniatures available here, though we'd have the find the exact pages in the manuscript. R Prazeres (talk) 21:43, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@R Prazeres Thank you for your great work, and i'm happy to contribute, here's what you requested [5] and according to this source [6] the muslim armies with the white and blue zigzag banners are Merinids. Nourerrahmane (talk) 02:07, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, great! This should come in useful. R Prazeres (talk) 02:12, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@R Prazeres Hi, since this discussion is about flags, i wanted to know about how close a War flag is to a state flag in medieval - early modern period. Nourerrahmane (talk) 11:27, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because that's a wider topic, I've left a message on your talk page. Cheers, R Prazeres (talk) 22:52, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
