Dear Madam/Sir,

I am writting an article on Wikipedia about RVR (in Czech), and I wonder may I use your photo of AGVIS FSI Forward Scatter Runway Visibility System to illustrate how does the system looks? The source and your address would be quated.

Here is link to the article: http://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr%C3%A1hov%C3%A1_dohlednost.

Yours Sincerely

XXXX XXXX

komu: mně XXXX,

I have received your email regarding the use of AGI-owned pictures in your Czech RVR Wikipedia page. As long as you quote AGI as the source and owner of copyright of the picture, that is OK. Please remember that you must not use the picture for any other purpose without asking us first.

I notice the other picture you are using to show a transmissometer only shows a single field site. I have attached a couple of other pictures we have that show both field sites, which you may also use for the Wikipedia page if you wish, again as long as we are quoted.

I am curious as to why you are creating this Wikipedia page - do you work in aviation or is it just a hobby? In any case I wish you the best of luck. Regards,

Second e-mail conversation

Occured after file was nominated for deletion

Hi, see below a new email conversation between me and the owner of the pictures (names and contacts of the persons are deleted, as the owner didn't wish to set them public)

komu: YYY Dear YYY,

sorry for such delayed answer, I've been offline for recent days. I've discussed the licensing of the images with other wikipedia members, and the best would be, if you'd send me a new email clearly quoting whether you permit usage of your images and in what conditions you allow to use them. The email would look something like this;

(according to your previous email, I adjusted the text, so it'd be easier for you, original of wiki template licensing email is stated here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Email_templates )

I hereby affirm that "Aeronautical & General Instruments Limited, Fleets Point, Willis Way, Poole, Dorset, BH15 3SS, United Kingdom," the sole owner of the exclusive copyright of these images:
  • AGIVIS 2000 Runway Visual Range System (2 of 2) url: not available description: two short red pole-like instruments standing opposite to each other, situated in the centre of the picture, both standing on gravel area enclosed with read and white low fence, yellow mast with meteorological instruments on top of it in right side of the picture, with a mechanic checking a system of the yellow mast, with two white aircraft passing each other in back of the scenery.

(a copyright-holder, director, appointed representative of, etc.)

As our previous email conversation doesn't fully cover the wiki licensing process, it is necessary you send an email similar to that one mentioned above. I understand you might not fully agree with those conditions because those instruments are a company property, and so that the images will be completely deleted from wikipedia server. I tried to check whether is there any other licensing tag that covers non-commercial use or so, but according wiki official policy wiki doesn't accept Fair Use Policies; see here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Fair_use. On the other side, having those pictures on the international wiki server may be a good place to place a link to your company for free.

The full list of all wiki copyright licenses is available here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Copyright_tags.

Again, I am sorry for continuous bothering you. I hope you'd understand I am a novice and thanks to this experience, next time it'd not take so much time to complete all process.

I wish you a nice day and best regards, XXX XXX

Thanks you for also using these images on the English language pages. It is not a problem to ask about this, I am glad you are willing to sort this out.
