I love this picture and its description:

  • "Yard approach, ..." - might be, far away, let's believe it.
  • "... especially junction switches..." - there are two switch in the picture on the left, a little wobbly, but they are, IMHO, not "junction switches", but parts of rail ladders ...
  • "... recently re-tracked and upgraded." - ... and even more certainly not upgraded.
  • "Area crossing gates, ..." - if they are there, the photographer has cut them out of the picture by aiming exactly between them.
  • "... signal lights, ..." - far away, we see a signal bridge; the lights are not discernable.
  • " ... and various facilities down to the new trackage is new or refurbished." - might be!
  • "A nearby Crew ..." - there is someone on the left side, albeit - is one person a crew?
  • "... is measuring rail to rail spacing tolerances with a measuring tape in advance of re-ballasting the track gravel." - unseen in the photo!

All in all, almost all of what the description contains is not on the photo. We (my daughter and I) therefore consider this a work of advanced art! --Haraldmmueller (talk) 09:34, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

LOL... jokes on you, though--but thanks for the comment. Please peruse these other photos in the series. Annotating pics takes far too long as it is, without being anal and precise in every detail. As it is, when I hang a pic, I tend to do a much better job describing what's what than most. And whether a junction or switch or junction switch is a matter of railroad culture. Mostly, they are a 'same thing'. I suppose a purist would maintain a set of points (yet another name for the same thing) must lead off to a spur to be a junction. Not the way the terms are generally used here in the US. Two tracks join, whether ladder or mainline, so a junction. Feel free to edit the description, if you like--but see the other pics first. Be well. // FrankB 20:12, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
