Categories of this file

[edit]

Unfortunately, it appears that you didn't take the time to read Commons:Categories and hence you didnt know that files are categorized by subject and not by content. That means you don't have to add a category, for every tiny bit and piece that's depicted in an image.--AutomobilePassion (talk) 19:59, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@AutomobilePassion: So you want to make it harder for people to get to see content they are looking for. Those three cars take up nearly a quarter of the picture. The picture is 1600 by 1200. So if anyone looks for a picture of a Volkswagen Caddy in blue where they could make a cropped version out of it (appr. 600 by 600) they shouldn't be able to find it. That doesn't makes sense at all, please consider this before making the guidelines holier as they are. --Steinfeld-feld (talk) 20:15, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Those guidelines make sense, what you write is your POV. Act according to our rules.--AutomobilePassion (talk) 20:17, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to keep those categories with that image, upload a cropped version.--AutomobilePassion (talk) 20:21, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As the description of the file says, the subject of that image is the city of Herford, to be more precise the Markthalle, and not certain vehicles.--AutomobilePassion (talk) 20:25, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If you crop an image it's not the same image anymore it's missing a lot of information and context that is added by the background. I hope you can understand that the categories still apply to the original image. The subject is that far away that it can only be seen as the background of the vehicles in the foreground and you could crop out the market hall self too. BTW do you mind if I move this discussion to the image talk page instead of my talk page? --Steinfeld-feld (talk) 20:34, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well as stated in the file desciption, the photographer obviously took a picture that depicts the market hall. If someone is looking for a picture of blue VW Caddy 2K they will find enough files depicting that car in the category for the Caddy. There is no need to categorise every tiny bit and piece. And there is no need to move this discussion. The rules are clear in this case.--AutomobilePassion (talk) 20:51, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@AutomobilePassion: Sure it's exactly about this file so it belongs here. Why don't we ask the uploader them self. Not everyone thinks about the automobiles everywhere they see it but that doesn't mean they are completely against it.The description is neutral to the vehicles by don't mentioning it. I don't want to drag the uploader/photographer in this disussion but you brought that up and I don't do it by now. But bear in mind that we could. --Steinfeld-feld (talk) 21:09, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
