The caption may be mistaken. Jordanian 25 pounders were stationed in Sheikh Jarah and the horizon doesn’t match. If the spire on the right is David’s Tower/Jaffa Gate then the fire is coming from north-west of the Old City. The arc of trajectory & the bright light to the left suggest it is flares being fired.
