1893 Morrison Electric

[edit]

In fact, this is the Morrison Electric car that entered the 1895 Chicago Times-Herald contest (first automobile race in the USA) with its owner, Harold Sturges. He was president of the American Battery Company in Chicago and had bought the car for $3600. It was shown at many events at the time, including the World's Columbian Exposition. So, it is likely that it was presented at the Chicago World's Fair, too.

The car had a 4HP street car motor with Siemens armature, rear wheel drive and 24 storage batteries under the floor. William Morrison held several patents on devices on this car.

I was able to find the same picture, together with the informations given above, in the Standard Catalogue of American Cars, 1805-1942 by Beverly Rae Kimes (editor) and Henry Austin Clark, jr., 2nd edition (1985); Krause Publications, Iola WI 54990, ISBN 0-87341-111-0, p. 960. --Chief tin cloud (talk) 14:00, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
