Description
Deutsch: Im Einsatz Am 11. Juli 2011 explodierten in einem Marinestützpunkt auf der Insel Zypern 98 Munitionscontainer. Hierbei kamen 13 Menschen ums Leben. Ein nahe gelegenes 793 Megawatt Kraftwerk, das für 50 Prozent der Energieversorgung Zyperns verantwortlich ist, wurde stark beschädigt. Im Rahmen einer europäischen Hilfsaktion flogen am 22. Juli 2011 drei Mitarbeiter des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) nach Zypern. Die Wissenschaftler erkundeten die Lage in dem einsturzgefährdeten Kraftwerk mit unbemannten Luftfahrzeugen (UAVs - unmanned aerial vehicle) und lieferten Bilder sowie Videos von den einzelnen Gebäuden und Räumen. Die zypriotische Regierung aktivierte nach der Detonation das Europäische Gemeinschaftsverfahren für den Katastrophenschutz (EU Civil Protection Mechanism).
