Description
Español: Zopilote rey Sarcoramphus papa, también llamado cóndor real, cuervo real, jote real, rey de los gallinazos, rey zope, zopilote real o rey zamuro, es una especie de ave de la familia Cathartidae, que vive predominantemente en los bosques tropicales de tierras bajas, desde el sur de México hasta el norte de Argentina. Es el único miembro superviviente del género Sarcoramphus, que incluye también miembros fósiles. No se reconocen subespecies. Es un ave carroñera que a menudo hace el corte inicial en los cadáveres de animales grandes. Por su tamaño, desplaza a las especies de buitres americanos más pequeñas cuando se encuentran cerca de un cadáver. Puede vivir hasta 30 años en cautiverio.
