[edit]DescriptionZlin Z-50LA 'SP-AUB' (14168601618).jpg |
The following info is taken from the museum's website:- "Zlín Z-50 is an aerobatic aircraft designed by a team led by Jan Mikula at the Moravan Otrokovice factory as a single-seat all-metal low-wing plane with a fixed undercarriage and powered by Lycoming AIO-540 engine rated at 260 hp. In production since 1975, it was subsequently upgraded with a more powerful AEIO-540 engine rated at 300 hp. The Z-50 had limit maneuvering load factors of +9.0 and -6.0. The capacity of the internal fuel tank is limited to 60 l, and for the purpose of ferry flights a pair of wingtip auxiliary tanks could be attached. In the 1970s and 1980s pilots flying the Zlín Z-50L and LS were successful in international aerobatic competitions, notably with Petr Jirmus winning twice the FAI European Aerobatic Championships and also twice the FAI World Aerobatic Championships in the Unlimited category. The type was also flown by members of Polish national aerobatic team. The advent of Su-26 and other new aerobatic aircraft meant the end of Z-50s career as a top aerobatic aircraft. Production of the type ended in 1994. The Z-50LA aircraft registered as SP-AUB is a prototype of the LA variant, powered by Lycoming AEIO-540 engine. The plane was manufactured in 1976. At first it was flown by Gliwice Aero Club, then by the Aero Clubs of Mielec, Zielona Góra and Poznań. It became one of aircraft of the "Żelazny" Aerobatic Group, a popular Polish civilian aerobatic team. As the number "4" the plane featured at various air shows in Poland and in 2008 in South Korea. It flew at several Malopolska Air Picnics organized by Polish Aviation Museum. On 4 November 2011 it landed for the last time at Museum's airstrip and became a part of the collection, donated by the members of "Żelazny" Group." c/n 009. On display suspended in the new entrance building at the Muzeum Lotnictwa Polskiego Krakow, Poland. 23-08-2013 |
