Description Archaic form of the character Tiān 天 ("Heaven", "Sky", "God"), of the Zhou dynasty and culture. It represents a human-like being whose head-mind is informed by the astral square of the north celestial pole (Big Dipper, swastika), and derives from the Shang archaic character for Dì 帝, "Deity". Further information in John C.
