Zamoyski. Do klasztoru przylega kaplica pw. Świętego Krzyża, o planie zbliżonym do kwadratu. Zostały odbudowane w tym samym miejscu: wzniesione z kamienia klasztor i kaplica, przekryte półszczytowymi dachami krytymi gontem, nawiązują do tradycji stylu zakopiańskiego. --- Albertine Compound in Kalatówki Zakopane The museum and cloister of Albertine (St Albert’s Order) nuns is located in the Bystra Valley, between Kuźnice and Kalatówki. The hermitage of their brother order is located higher up, on the slope of Krokiew. Both places are associated with St Albert Chmielowski. Adam Hilary Chmielowski (1845-1916), known by the name of (now Saint) Brother Albert, not only carried out social work, but was also a painter. He was beatified in 1983 and canonised in 1989 by Pope John Paul II. The congregation called Brothers of the Third Order of St Francis, Servants of the Poor, known as the Albertines, founded by Adam Chmielowski was approved as a lay congregation in 1928 by the Archbishop of Kraków. Brother Albert, who first came to Zakopane at the end of 19th century to visit his friend Stanisław Witkiewicz, was delighted with the beauty of the Tatra Mountains and decided to build a hermitage with a chapel here. The idea became reality when count Władysław Zamojski granted some land for the purpose, situated by the road to the Kalatówki glade. The construction works, according to the design by Stanisław Witkiewicz, started in 1898 and the monastery and chapel were consecrated the same year. The little hermitage – a home of Brother Albert – was built in 1901. A year later the monks built another wooden monastery on the nearby Śpiąca Górka, and gave away the old one by Kalatówki road to the Congregation of Albertine Sisters. The cloister of the so-called Grey Sisters was made of wood logs on a high stone underpinning and covered with half-hipped shingled roof. The cloister is adjoined by the rectangular chapel of Holy Cross. The interior of the latter is divided into two parts: one is a chancel separated with a balustrade from a nave, the other is the chancel, with three windows opening to the chapel’s interior. The hermitage of St Albert, built in 1901, is situated in the cloister’s gardens. It has been converted into a small museum dedicated to the life and memory of the saint. The chapel and cloister built in 1902 by Albertines were made of wood. In 1977, the hermitage and the chapel burnt down. They were reconstructed in the very same location according to the design of two Zakopane architects – Danuta Kopkiewicz and Zbigniew Śliwiński. The new cloister and the chapel are made of stone, covered with half-hipped shingled roof. They were built in Zakopane style in 1984.
