Description
English: Ariko weeps as her boat drifts in the moonlight
"Tsuki Hyakushi" (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon) Poem by Lady Ariko-no-Naishi (A.D. 829-900) in the Heian Court, "How hopeless it is, it would be better for me to sink beneath the waves perhaps then, I could see my man from Moon Capital." In the Noh play Ariko no Naishi, the Heian court lady-in-waiting Ariko is despondent over an unrequited love with a young aristocrat. Before she jump from the boat and drown herself, she is playing biwa(Japanese lute), but bursting tear preventing her from playing it.
