Summary
[edit]DescriptionYesler Wharf 1882.jpeg |
English: Peiser, Yesler, Harrington, and Crawford wharves on waterfront of Seattle, Washington. Image gives year 1882 but it is likely earlier, from 1875 to 1879.. Steamboat Teaser is in foreground. Presence of Teaser tentatively allows this photograph to be dated as between 1875, when Teaser was sent to Puget Sound by the Oregon Steam Navigation Company, and 1879, when Teaser sank. While Teaser was later raised, the vessel was converted to a sealing schooner, which the vessel shown in this image does not appear to be. This also allows a rough identification of the five sternwheelers moored alongside Yesler's wharf. By 1876, the following sternwheelers were operating on Puget Sound and the rivers flowing into it: Zephyr, Annie Stewart, Nellie, Fannie Lake, J.B Libby, Despatch, Phantom, Comet, Wenat, Otter, Celilo, Success, and Ruby. Some of these steamers are probably shown in this image. |
