Description |
English: Yesler School opened in the early 1890s in Henry Yesler's recently-built lumber mill town of the same name, on Lake Washington's Union Bay. The school was located on Thirty-sixth Avenue NE, just above NE Forty-seventh Street, across from the sawmill. It was used until 1918, when the student body moved to the new Bryant School.
This November 1912 photo shows a group of Yesler School students and their principal, E.W. Kelly, standing on the school's front steps. According to school district records, the school had grown from 47 to 57 students during the previous year.
