The government has entire control of the park.All new roads opened and the repairs, sprinkling,and maintenance of old roads and trails are entirelxdependent upon Congressional appropriations. Theroads are now in very fine condition. Steel andconcrete bridges span the streams, grades have beenminimized and roadways widened. Within recentyears the government has spent more than $2,000,-000 in improvements in the park. Prominentamong these is the construction of the fine $10,000lava arch entrance at Gardiner; the concreteviaduct at Golden Gate, costing $10,000; and theerection of a very fine concrete and steel bridgeacross the Yellowstone River and rapids, just abovethe Upper Fall of the Yellowstone at the GrandCanyon, at an expense of $20,000.
