Over fence and hedge,across ditch and stream, the Narragansett led them.No trained hurdler that ever ran across countryin the county of Devonshire could have held thepace that Vance kept up. Twice he threw them offthe scent by running up a stream and doubling onhis tracks. But the whole countryside was out andafter him. The dogs were gaining on him swiftly,
