Summary

[edit]
Description

c/n 170101. Egyptian Air Force serial 533. Not quite what it seems. Although a perfect representation of a Yak-3, and kept airworthy, this is actually a modified LET C-11, a Czech built Yak-11. The overall effect, however, is very impressive. She was one of a batch of C-11 hulks recovered from El Aakha Airbase in Egypt to La Ferte Alais in France, arriving there in 1985. By 1988 she was with ‘The Fighter Collection’ at Duxford, UK and in 1991 she went to Russia for rebuild as a Yak-3. Fitted with an Allison V-1710, she arrived back at Duxford in 1999. Despite being Britsh registered as G-BTHD, she did not fly in the UK and in 2005 she was shipped to Chino where a full rebuild took place, resulting in the fine machine seen today. On display in the ‘Foreign’ hangar at the Planes of Fame Museum, Chino, California, USA.
