Description
English: View of the Xi'an, China, city wall outer gate taken while standing in the inner gate showing the courtyard and part of the guardhouse atop the outer gate. Photo taken Richard Chambers, AAA Yangtze Sampler tour, May, 2004.

This photograph, taken while standing in the inner gate, shows a view of the courtyard between inner and outer gate and the wooden guardhouse built on top of the outer gate.

The inner gate is build in line with the city wall. The courtyard protrudes from the city wall so that the outer gate is outside of the wall though attached to it with the wall surrounding the courtyard.

See photo taken standing in the inner gate looking inside the wall towards the Bell Tower to see what was the Forbidden City when Xi'an was the capital of China but is now a bustling modern city.

See photo taken from the second story of the wooden gatehouse on the outer gate which shows a view of the exterior of the Xi'an city wall and the moat surrounding the wall. The area between moat and city wall has been turned into a lovely park area.
