Bear Grass (white) Xerophyllum tenax Liliaceae alongs with Lupines (blue) and Castilleja (Red Indian Paintbrush) Granite Mountain, King County, Washington USA ~ 4900 feet (1500 m) You can see the interestate I-90 in the upper right, it's about 1000 meters below this area. Granite Mountain is a great hike, the first half is in the woods, then you break out into montain medows like this. There is a nice old fire lookout at the top. There was a lot of snow near the top in early July, 2007, however, as you can see the bear grass in the meadows was impressive. i070707 061 |
