rical supply is not suitable for standardmachines or is likely to fail because of war conditions. The gasoline engine is direct-connected to a generatorwhich supplies power for the main and filament trans-formers (A. C.) and a small amount of current (D. C.)for the control circuit. The primary circuit requires nocontrol resistance, regulation for the two working set-tings being made by shifting the throttle by means ofthe D. C. control circuit, thereby changing the speed andoutput of the generator. The secondary circuit containsno rectifying device since the tube allows only eachalternate half wave to pass. (See p. 28 for a descriptionof the tube.) Fluoroscopic work is done at 5 M.A. and all radio-graphic work at 10 M A. The maximum operating gap isabout 5 inches, but may be reduced if desired by controlof the machine speed. All work is done at the standarddistance of 20 inches, time alone being the variablefactor.
