esirable. By using a flexible cord, the lamp in Fig.51 may be hung outside after the box is opened andserve as the source to be used when no plates are ex-posed to light. Arrangement. Dark rooms may be quite elaborate and yet be veryinconvenient. A simple arrangement for a small outfitis shown in Fig. 52. No doors are needed in this case. Fixing bath and supplies are to be kept apart fromdeveloper and developing supplies. A plain open shelf isused in filling envelopes, etc. Cassettes, intensifyingscreen, and envelopes may be kept in suitable compart-ments below. Plates in small amounts may be keptin compartments above this shelf. An inexpensivearrangement serving all needs is shown in Fig. 53 forholding developer tank, fixing tank, and also serving asa washing tank. For a permanent installation the tankmay be lead-lined, but for a semi-permanent woodentank a heavy coating of water- and chemical-proofpaint will suffice. In warm weather, use ice to coolbath, and do not dilute developer.
