Text Appearing Before Image:
INLET Fig. 53. Simple tank development arrangement using enamelled tanksfor developer and hypo. All solutions have the same temperature.
Text Appearing After Image:
Bracket Fig. 54. Simple ventilator for dark room. All inner surfaces to be paintedred or black. 112 X-RAY PHYSICS 113 Ventilation. Good ventilation is essential in a dark room, not aloneto increase the efficiency of the operator but because aclose musty atmosphere is bad for the sensitive emulsion. When a new room is designed, the matter is quite simple, but when any old closet is regarded as good enough fora dark room it is quite a different matter. The im-portant point to be kept in mind is that air must belet in and out but light must be excluded. Where anelectric fan can be used, it is easy to accomplish thisresult. Fig 54 shows one way. The fan is placed in abox, open at each end, inserted through the wall. Asecond box is placed inside the room, as shown, and allsurfaces are painted a flat black. Air has free passageand light is entirely excluded. A similar arrangementcan be used in a window, either with or without thefan. Humidity. Basement dark rooms are often very damp in summer
