In Fig. 30 the cross-arm machine, E and A, C and F,B and G must be well insulated by barriers, or else theshaft must be unduly long. In the disc machine thediameter must be large enough to insure insulationbetween the shaft and the rim and also to avoid estab-lishing an arc between the fixed sectors along the edgeof the disc. Sparking Troubles. Dust and moisture may impair the insulation ofbarriers or disc. Remedy: Keep clean and wipe with acloth slightly moistened with kerosene.
