Description
English: Part of a monument in All Saints' parish church, Clovelly, Devon. A putto holding an escutcheon showing arms of Wyndham: Azure, a chevron between three lion's heads erased or. Detail from mural monument to Joan Wyndham (1669–87). She was the first wife of William Cary (about 1661–1710), lord of the manor of Clovelly, twice Member of Parliament for Okehampton in Devon 1685–87 and 1689–95 and also for Launceston in Cornwall 1695-1710 and was the daughter of Sir William Wyndham, 1st Baronet (about 1632–83) of Orchard Wyndham, Somerset, Member of Parliament for Somerset 1656–58 and for Taunton 1660–79. Above are shown the arms of Cary (Argent, on a bend sable three roses of the field) impaling Wyndham.
