He left two surviving sons, James Burkin Burroughes (1760-1803) and Randall Burroughes. James Burkin Burroughes, the heir, inherited Burlingham Hall from his mother and in 1789 married Christabell Negus (born 1764), only daughter and sole heiress of Henry Negus (1734-1807) of Hoveton Hall. James died in 1803, aged 43, leaving his wife with seven sons (including the eldest Henry Negus Burroughes) and one daughter. In 1809, by then a widow, Christabell commissioned the architect Humphry Repton to re-build Hoveton Hall, in its surviving form, completed in 1812, possibly because her eldest son was due to inherit Burlingham Hall at age 21 in 1812. In 1815 two of her sons, James and Edward , died of fever whilst at Cambridge University. (Source: https://www.historichouses.org/house/hoveton-hall-gardens/history/)
