Wymondham Abbey - C18 memorial
Description

Wymondham Abbey, Norfolk, mural monument to Samuel Proctor (c.1697-1772), a son of Daniel Proctor of Shepperton, Middlesex, by his wife Bridget Cook, a daughter and co-heiress of Sir William Cook, 2nd Baronet (c.1630-1708), of Broome Hall in Norfolk. He married Anna Blackborne, only daughter and sole heiress of Edmund Blackborne/Blackbourn of Burfield Hall in the parish of Wymondham, Norfolk. Burfield Hall was built c. 1730 by the Blackbourn family, cloth merchants.

  • 2: Argent, a cross voided ..... (?)
  • 3: Or, a chevron engrailed gules between three cinquefoils azure on a chief of the second a lion passant argent (Cooke of Linstead, Suffolk) (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.224)
  • 4: Or, a fess chequy argent and azure (Stewart, Hereditary High Steward of Scotland) (Stewart, heiress of Cooke). See arms on monument in St Mary's Church, Cranworth, Norfolk to w:Sir William Cook, 2nd Baronet (c.1630-1708), of Broome Hall in Norfolk. Text from Wikipedia: "In 1664 (date of marriage settlement) he married his step-sister Jane Stewart (died 1698), a daughter of William Stewart of Wisbech in Cambridgeshire and of Barton Mills.
Overall an inescutcheon of pretence of Blackborne: Argent, a fess wavy between three mullets sable (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.86)
