Deutsch: Kurfürstin Sophie Charlotte, Königin in Preußen (1668-1705).
1684 heiratete Sophie Charlotte aus dem welfischen Haus Braunschweig-Lüneburg den gerade verwitweten brandenburgischen Kurprinzen Friedrich. Vier Jahre später, nach dem Tod des Großen Kurfürsten, wurde Friedrich III. Kurfürst. Am 18. Januar 1701 krönte er sich selbst in Königsberg zum ersten König in Preußen un seine Gemahlin Sophie Charlotte zur Königin. Sophie Charlotte war außerordentlich gebildet, sprach außer Deutsch fließend Italienisch, Französisch und Englisch und spielte Cembalo. Die Wissenschaftssprache Latein hatte sie sich selbst beigebracht. In ihrem 1699 eingeweihten Schloss Lietzenburg vor den Toren Berlins unterhielt sie nicht nur ein Theater, ließ Opern und Ballette aufführen, sondern empfing auch bedeutende Gelehrte ihrer Zeit. Der berühmteste Gast am Lietzenburger Hof war Wilhelm Leibniz, der Universalgelehrte und väterliche Freund aus Hannover. Sophie Charlotte starb im Februar 1705 nach einem Hofball an einer Lugenentzündung, mit nur 36 Jahren. Nach ihrem Tod benannte König Friedrich I. das Schloss und das umgebende Dorf in Charlottenburg um.
