Deutsch: Königin Luise (1776-1810) die beliebteste preußische Königin
Luise Herzogin von Mecklenburg-Strelitz war seit 1793 verheiratet mit Friedrich Wilhelm III. Sie brachte in 17 Ehejahren 10 Kinder zur Welt und war die Mutter von König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. und Kaiser Wilhelm I. 1793, im Jahr ihrer Eheschließung, zitterten die europäischen Höfe vor einem Übergreifen der Revolution auf ihre Länder. Doch die charismatische junge Königin gewann mit ihrer liebenswürdigen Art und einem fast bürgerlichen Auftreten in der Öffentlichkeit an der Seite des eher wortkargen Königs die Zuneigung der Preußen. Legendär ist ihr Versuch, Preußen nach der Niederlage von 1806 durch eine persönliche Begehung mit Napoleon in Tilsit zu retten. Mit sicherem Instinkt beeinflusste sie den zögernden Friedrich Wilhelm III., die von Stein und Hardenberg ausgearbeiteten inneren Reformen Preußens umzusetzen. Am 19. Juli 1810 starb Königin Luise mit nur 34 Jahren im elterlichen Sommerschloss Hohenziertz an einer Lungenentzündung. Für Dichter, Maler und Bildhauer wurde sie zur Inspirationsquelle. Noch fast 100 Jahre nach ihrem Tod war Königin Luise, nach einer Umfrage der Berliner Zeitung im Jahr 1900, "die am meisten bewunderte Deutsche". Gemälde von Christoph Wetzel (2000), komponiert nach dem Porträt von Joseph Maria Grassi (1802) unter Bezug auf das Gemälde von Alexander Macco (1800), Johann Gottfried Schadows "Prinzessinnengruppe" und die Totenmaske Luises. |
