Deutsch: Johann ,Cicero’ (1455–1499, ab 1486 Kurfürst von Brandenburg). Johann heiratete 1476 Margarete von Sachsen, mit der er sieben Kinder hatte. Johann stand bis zum Tod seines Vaters Albrecht Achilles stets unter dessen strenger Kontrolle. Der hatte ihn zwar bereits 1473 zu seinem ständigen Stellvertreter in Brandenburg erhoben, untersagte ihm aber das Reisen und erschwerte ihm das Regieren durch äußerst knappe finanzielle Mittel. Erst ab 1486 übte Johann tatsächlich die Macht aus. 1488 führte er mit dem ,Biergeld‘ die erste indirekte Steuer ein, bestimmte die Doppelstadt Berlin-Cölln endgültig zur Residenzstadt und erwarb die Anwartschaft auf die Nachfolge in Pommern.
Der Kurfürst bereitete den humanistischen Studien in Brandenburg den Weg. Waren bislang vor allem Gelehrte, Juristen und Beamte aus Franken herangezogen worden, die sich im römischen Recht auskannten, schickte Johann zunehmend märkische Edelleute an italienische oder deutsche Hochschulen. Seine lateinische Sprachkenntnis und sein rhetorisches Talent brachte ihm auf Reichstagen und Fürstenversammlungen den Beinamen ,Cicero Germanicus‘ ein. Am 9. Januar 1499 starb Johann ,Cicero‘ mit nur 44 Jahren an Brustwassersucht. Er wurde in der Klosterkirche Lehnin beigesetzt und ist der erste Kurfürst aus dem Hause Hohenzollern, der in der Mark Brandenburg seine letzte Ruhestätte fand.
