Deutsch: Invaliden und Kriegszitterer
Invaliden und Kriegszitterer Am Ende des Krieges 1918 lebten in Deutschland rund 2,7 Millionen physisch und psychisch Versehrte Kriegsteilnehmer: an Armen oder Beinen Amputierte, Erblindete sowie Männer, denen ganze Gesichtspartien fehlten. Groß war auch die Zahl derer, die die Schrecken der Front seelisch nicht verkraften konnten. Manche waren vollkommen apathisch, Andere schreien stundenlang. Bei Vielen lösten Erinnerungsreize ein unkontrollierbares Zittern am ganzen Körper aus. Ein in der Medizin bis dahin unbekanntes Phänomen. Diese sogenannten „Kriegszitterer“ wurden von den Militärärzten als Schwächlinge oder Simulanten angesehen. Die kleine staatliche Invalidenrente reichte fast nie zum Leben. Viele Invaliden schlugen sich auf der Straße als Bürstenbinder, Schnürsenkelverkäufer, Bettler oder Leierkastenspieler durch. Der Staat überschüttete die „im Felde unbesiegten Helden“ mit öffentlichen Dankbarkeitsbekundungen. Aber die Rentenversicherungen waren durch die hohe Zahl der Kriegsopferrenten und Kriegshinterbliebenenrenten völlig überfordert. Die Hyperinflation der 20er Jahre vernichtete 90% des Vermögens der Rentenversicherung. Das Straßenbild der Städte blieb daher lange Zeit geprägt von Notleidenden Invaliden. Auch in anderen Ländern befanden sich die Kriegsinvaliden in einer ähnlichen Situation. Die am Krieg beteiligten Staaten waren hoch verschuldet und konnten keine abgesicherte Kriegsrentenversorgung gewährleisten. |
