Friedrich II. (geb. 1712, gest. 1786, ab 1740 König in Preußen, ab 1772 König von Preußen) Philosoph, Kriegsherr und aufgeklärter Staatsmann - er machte Preußen zur (kleinsten) Großmacht Friedrich heiratete 1733 auf Anordnung des Vaters Elisabeth Christine von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel–Bevern. Die Ehe blieb kinderlos. Der jugendliche Kronprinz zeigte kein Interesse für die Staatsverwaltung und wich der strengen militärischen Zucht seines Vaters aus. Der wütende Vater versuchte, ihm das Flötenspiel und die französische Literatur auszutreiben. Der Streit eskalierte 1730 im Fluchtversuch Friedrichs. Nach monatelanger Einzelhaft in Küstrin und der Hinrichtung seines Freundes Katte unterwarf sich Friedrich dem Vater. Er erlernte die preußische Verwaltung, wurde Regimentskommandeur in Neuruppin, heiratete und erhielt schließlich seinen philosophischen Musenhof in Rheinsberg vom Vater zum Geschenk. Hier korrespondierte er mit Voltaire und verfasste den Antimachiavell. 1740 eroberte der junge König Schlesien, das er in drei Kriegen behauptete. Der dritte, der „siebenjährige Krieg“ (1756-63), war der erste weltweite Krieg. Preußen band mit englischen Hilfszahlungen die Franzosen auf dem Kontinent, England eroberte sein weltweites Kolonialreich. Die zweite Hälfte seiner Regierungszeit widmete sich Friedrich dem inneren Ausbau seines Staates Die Trockenlegung des Rhinluchs und des Oderbruchs schufen hunderte neuer Dörfer. Friedrich reformierte die Justiz und das Schulwesen. Er vervierfachte die Staatseinnahmen auf 27 Millionen Taler und hinterließ bei seinem Tod einen Staatsschatz von 54 Millionen Taler. |
