Deutsch: Elisabeth von Bayern-Landshut - die "schöne Els" - (1383 - 1442)
Die Ahnherrin der brandenburgischen Hohenzollern war die Tochter von Herzog Friedrich von Bayern-Landshut und seiner Frau Maddalena Visconti aus Mailand. 1401 wurde sie mit dem Nürnberger Burggrafen Friedrich VI. aus dem Hause Hohenzollern vermählt, der vor 600 Jahren die Hohenzollernherrrschaft in der Mark Brandenburg begründete. Sieben ihrer zehn Kinder sah Elisabeth selbst noch vermählt und hatte entscheidenden Anteil an den Ehearrangements: mit Kursachsen, mit Mecklenburg, mit Braunschweig-Lüneburg, mit Liegnitz und Brieg, mit Teschen und mit Bayer-Ingolstadt. Elisabeth fiel aus der traditionellen Frauenrolle des Mittelalters heraus. Selbstbewußt und von schneller Auffassungsgabe wurde sie für Friedrich eine wesentliche Stütze. Während der Abwesenheit ihres Gemahls auf dem Konstanzer Kirchenkonzil und während der Hussitenkriege regierte sie die Mark Brandenburg als seine Statthalterin. Friedrich weilte von51412 an insgesamt nur fünf Jahre selbst in der Mark. Am 2. Februar 1413 hielt Elisabeth mit ihren Kindern ihren Einzug in die Residenz Tangermünde. Die ganze Stadt war in Feststimmung und selbst Kinder und Greise, so ein Chronist, trotzten der winterlichen Kälte und bewunderten Elisabeth, die Schöne, mit ihren Fräulein und Frauenzimmern. Ein halbes Jahr zuvor war Friedrich, eer „tand von Nürenberg“, von den Brandenburgern noch mit kühler Zurückhaltung empfangen worden. Elisabeth brachte das Eis zum Schmelzen.
