Description
Deutsch: Graphik zur geologischen Entwicklung des Wurzacher Rieds, Oberschwaben, Baden-Württemberg ab dem Mittleren Pliozän. Die braunen (Hoßkirch-Eiszeit), orangenen (Riß-Eiszeit) und grünen (Würm-Eiszeit) Linien zeigen geologisch nachgewiesene Endmoränen von Eisständen des jeweiligen Eisvordringens. Der Rheingletscher der Würm-Eiszeit erreichte etwa vor 23Tsd. Jahren seinen Höchststand (kräftig grüne Linie). Zwischen dem Außenwall des Würm-Gletschers und dem Innenwall des Riß-Gletschers war nunmehr das seit dem Hoßkirch-Gletscher tief ausgeschürfte Zungenbecken komplett eingeschlossen. Der einzige Auslass dieses Endmoränen-Stausees ist die von Bad Wurzach nach Süden fließende Wurzacher Ach (blaue Linie). Durch die Akkumulation von Sanden und Schotter vor den Würm Gletscherrändern wuchsen die Schotterebenen, die Seefläche wurde kleiner und flacher. Die Schmelzwasser der Gletscher ließen den Wasserspiegel ansteigen. Bohrmessungen ergaben, dass der Fels heute erst ca. 300m unterhalb der Oberfläche angetroffen wurde. Durch Verlandung ist das heutige Wurzacher Ried, ein 18km2 großes Moor, überwiegend Hochmoor, entstanden. Die abgebildete Morphologie entspricht einem aktuellen digitalen Geländemodell.

The terminal moraines of the Riss- and Würm glaciers confined the Zungenbecken, the lake’s size shrank and slowly silted up.
