Das nordrhein-westfälische Bauministerium lobt seit 1980 alle fünf Jahre in Kooperation mit der Architektenkammer Nordrhein-Westfalen die „Auszeichnung vorbildlicher Bauten in Nordrhein-Westfalen“ aus.

Dieser Architekturpreis gilt als Visitenkarte für höchste Architekturqualität.

Ausgezeichnet werden Bauherren und Architekten, die in gestalterischer, ökologischer und ökonomischer Hinsicht herausragende Bauten und Anlagen in Nordrhein-Westfalen realisiert haben.
