Description
English: Writers' Building in B.B.D. Bagh Area of Kolkata was designed by Thomas Lyon in 1777 for the British East India Company. It originally served as the principal administrative office for writers (junior clerks) of the British East India Company. Writers' acquired its Greco-Roman look between 1879 to 1906. Writers’ received a makeover in French Renaissance style with the parapet being put in place and edifying statues sculpted by William Frederick Woodington lining the terrace, installed in 1883.
