Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built 1945 as a standard B-25J-25/27-NC with the c/n 108-34126. Later converted to a TB-25J trainer and finally to a VB-25N staff transport. She saw USAF service until stored at Davis Monthan in 1958 and sold off in 1959. Registered as N9089Z, she came to the UK in 1963 as a camera ship for filming work on the movies ‘633 Squadron’ and ‘The Longest Day’. She also made a brief appearance in ‘633 Squadron’ as ‘N908’ and throughout this period was named ‘Moviemaker II’. She was stored at Biggin Hill from 1964 to 1967 and then moved by road to the Historic Aircraft Museum at Southend during July 1967 where she was repainted in RAF colours as ‘HD368 / VO-A’. When the museums exhibits were sold off in 1983 she joined Aces High and initially moved to Duxford in August 1984, but going to North Weald in 1987 with the entire company and their fleet. She was repainted in USAAC colours as ‘44-30861’ and named ‘Bedsheet Bomber’, but remained sitting outside and slowly rotting away until finally being sold in 2006. She was taken to Booker for static restoration, later ending up stored at Crowland before finally arriving at the Wings Museum in July 2019.

Restoration work is currently consentrated on the fuselage, with the other components awaiting their turn. The engines are currently stored in the workshop, which we were very kindly given a tour of during our visit. Wings Museum, Balcombe, West Sussex, UK
