Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Katie Conrad, wildlife biologist and project leader for the Hurricane Sandy funded Wreck Pond restoration project, holds a captured alewife herring that will be weighed, measured, and placed back into the water.

As part of the larger Hurricane Sandy resilience project "Aquatic Connectivity & Flood Resilience in NJ: Removing the Hughesville Dam in Pohatcong and Restoring the Wreck Pond Inlet and Dunes", a 600 foot long culvert will be installed at Wreck Pond, a 73-acre tidal pond near the towns of Sea Girt and Spring Lake, New Jersey. This restores fish passage for herring, eels and other species along two miles of habitat. Before and after the culvert is constructed, fish species are monitored to gauge herring spawning success.
