Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Breach of an 8 inch 15 pdr. model of 1902 coastal defense gun at Battery Irwin, Fort Monroe, VA. Battery Irwin is one of several batteries of early 20th century (WWI era) coastal defense guns at Fort Monroe, VA. While Fort Monroe is probably best known for its important role during the American Civil War, it continued to serve as an active Army installation into the early 21st century, and as a result its uses and equipment continued to evolve, as demonstrated by the coastal artillery still on display.
