Provenance:
Des Weiteren ist auf der Rückseite gelegentlich der Inventarisierung die Beschriftung erfolgt, die den Dargestellten als den Großvater des königlichen Besitzers nennt: “Louis Phillippe, Duc d’Orléans, né à Versailles le 12 Mai 1725, mort à Saint Assies le 18 Novembre 1785”. Auf der Vorderseite des Gemäldes ist links am Unterrand eine weitere Inventar-Nummer “355.4” in Ölfarbe aufgebracht worden. Auf dem hölzernen Spannrahmen befindet sich ein Brandstempel mit Krone und den noch nicht geklärten Initialen “L.P.D.” Der rote Gummistempel dokumentiert die Versteigerung des Gemäldes vom 5. Juni 1956 “Chateau de Tourronde”. Der Dargestellte ist von Jean-Marc Nattier bekanntermaßen wenigstens zweimal portraitiert worden - entsprechend wurden wenige hochrangige Atelierwiederholungen - wie die hier vorliegende - erstellt, wie die Inventar-Nummern in Versailles (MV 3815 und MV 5585) belegen, im Katalog der Museen von Versailles, 1995, als Nr. 3817 und 3825 aufgeführt.
