Turn theplane iron over again on the beveledside and rub a few strokes. Con-tinue these operations until thefeather edge disappears entirely.Feel for it on both sides, but becareful not to cut your fingers. 5. Adjusting the Plane—The ad-justing nut is for gauging the thick-ness of the shaving the plane is tocut. An easy way to set a plane isto draw the plane iron up by meansof the adjusting nut until it is evenwith the bottom of the plane. Thencarefully turn the adjusting nutwhile moving the plane across theboard until the shaving is of theproper thickness. If the plane cutson either edge of the blade insteadof the center, turn the lateral ad-justment toward the edge that itis cutting until the shavings arebeing cut in the middle of the planeiron.
