| Description |
English: Woodford station, Essex. Looking north. The railway line through Woodford was opened by the Eastern Counties Railway in 1856, the station here being opened at the same time. The Company very soon afterwards became the Great Eastern Railway, and in 1923 it was absorbed into the LNER. Electric tube trains of London Transport's Central Line replaced the previous steam trains in 1947 and a frequent service now operates through from West London. There is also a branch service from Hainault via Chigwell. In this view, passengers are waiting for a London-bound train. The time is mid-morning but there is no shortage of passengers. |
