Description |
This photo is of the ship the 'Dimsdale' which struck the Wonga Shoal lighthouse in 1912. The lighthouse, which was built in 1901, stood on a large sandbank in Semaphore. The two light keepers Henry Franson and Charles McGowan were killed in the accident. Captain John Jones, master of the Dimsdale, was charged with murder for the head keeper of the lighthouse Henry Franson. The captain pleaded not guilty. After five investigations over a year the captain was found not guilty by the Criminal Courts of South Australia in 1913. |
