consist ofstrings of blue and white bead n -cklaces,the waist and ankles being bound round with •strings of small white beads. The apronsare embroidered with cowries or beads aswell as the belts. Sometimes a leather capedecorated with beadwork is worn at dances ;this cape falls as low as the mid-arm. After a marriage has been arranged bythe payment of three or four cows, the bride runs away and pretends toAkamba hide. The bridegroom and a Customs. small party of friends start out to hunt for her, and whencaught she is carried to the bridegroomshut, accompanied by a merry crowd ofwomen and girls. She is taken into the hut,and, after some horseplay, is left for threedays with her husband. At the end of thattime she is escorted back in processionto her fathers hut for a feast, and thenbegins the usual round of domestic duties ather new home. Polygamy prevails; a manmay have five or six wives, and he is notat all averse to lending one or more to afriend v/ho may happen to be childless.
