Summary
[edit]DescriptionWombourne railway station (geograph 3837380).jpg |
English: Wombourne railway station The railway that passed through Wombourne was relatively short lived: from opening in 1925, the passenger service lasted only until 1932, but the line continued to provide a useful way for freight trains to avoid congested routes around Wolverhampton, Birmingham, and the Black Country until 1965. It is therefore remarkable that one platform and the main station building at Wombourne have survived. The latter now plays host to a cafe, no doubt taking advantage of the passing trade generated by the route's current status as a footpath and cycleway. |
