Summary
[edit]DescriptionWoman with beaded watch chain by T & J Holroyd (1).jpg | Photograph of a woman with a beaded watch chain by T & J Holroyd of Harrogate. The photographers were brothers Thomas Holroyd (1821–1904) and James Holroyd (c.1825–1874). Thomas was a portrait and landscape painter, and James was a photographer, both from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. Although they were both credited, it was James who took most of the photographs. The watch chain is a status symbol; it implies housekeeping in a big house. The back of the photograph says "ELMHISST" which is almost certainly a mis-spelling of "Elmhirst" - so most likely the lady's married or maiden name was Elmhirst. | |||||
