Summary
[edit]DescriptionWobbly bridge 120600.jpg |
English: View from the top of St Paul's Cathedral of Tate Modern and the Millennium Bridge, London. The photo was taken two days after the bridge opened and was discovered to suffer from harmonic vibrations induced by people crossing. An attempt to limit the numbers of people crossing the bridge did not dampen public enthusiasm for what was something of a white-knuckle ride, or the vibrations themselves, but led to the long queues visible on both banks of the Thames. The bridge was closed on the day this photo was taken for lengthy reconstruction, and reopened in February 2002.
A barge train visible in the river is probably taking waste to landfill sites downstream of the city. Photo taken by wurzeller on 12 June 2000 and released under terms of the GFDL licence. |
