Summary
[edit]DescriptionWitley Court - geograph.org.uk - 3680.jpg |
English: Witley Court. The house was remodelled in the 1850s by local architect Samuel Daukesin in Italianate style using ashlar stone and W. A. Nesfield transformed the gardens around the same time.
In 1937 a huge fire that could be seen for from as far away as Worcester destroyed a substantial part of the main house after which the estate was broken up and, with the exception of the church, the house was largely abandoned. Today the property is in the care of English Heritage who are restoring the grounds (see 235113 for a more recent view). The Baroque decor of the church has also been beautifully restored. |
