In life, we can all benefit from mentors. Dr. Irene Peden was my thesis adviser in graduate school. Learning from her and working in her research group had a major impact in my career. We stand on the shoulders of giants. I was happy to attend her 90th birthday party at University of Washington. Here she is giving me some more good advice as I start my next round of learning at University of Washington. Dr. Peden was the first woman faculty member hired at the UW College of Engineering. She pioneered the way for many women in engineering. Here is a video of Dr. Peden recruiting woman to science and engineering in the 1960s and there is a great interview about engineering that she gave in 2002 . PedenDSC_0191 |
